OCTOBER PTO NEWS AND EVENTS

A huge THANK YOU to all of our Heartland Carnival volunteers! Without you, all the fun would not have been possible! An extra special THANK YOU to the chair of the event, Angie Fitzsimmons for everything she did to make this event happen! We appreciate all of the hard work! If you still have pictures taken at the carnival, be sure to upload them here: https://heartlandyearbook.smugmug.com/Carnival/

Starting this year, our Heartland Directory can only be accessed online. As a benefit to PTO membership, only members will be granted access. This tool only becomes useful if everyone ensures their contact information is correct every year. Parents must update this information yearly with teacher names in order to stay up to date. Step by step instructions to make sure everything is correct can be found by clicking here.

Do you have a student that is working toward the district or President's Volunteer service awards? With a family account on our website, parents can now enter and track how many volunteer hours their students have. Full instructions can be found here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Qx8Q-z8tMZOiMYA3RemkSXZjJxME1SmMrOQ_aKDjlSQ

Donation Drive to Benefit Wayside Waifs

To coincide with an upcoming mobile field trip, Heartland will be doing a donation drive from October 15th to November 2nd. Some of our students will also be making rope toys for the animals using donated blankets and towels. Added bonus: Donate to our drive and your family can place a picture of your pet on our board we will be presenting to Wayside Waifs along with our donation! Donation bin will be located at the front of our school. For the complete Wayside Waifs Wish List click here: https://heartlandpto.membershiptoolkit.com/waysidewaifs

Trex Recycling Challenge Begins

Heartland will once again be participating in the Trex Recycling Challenge. Trex Company is one of the largest plastic bag and film recyclers in the US. Every year, hundreds of schools across the nation compete against each other to see who can recycle the most plastic bags and film. The challenge begins on America Recycles Day, November 15th and lasts until April 15th. The winning school will be announced on Earth Day, April 22nd, with that school receiving a Trex composite bench made from recycled materials. We are starting our recycling early so collection bins are already located at the front of the school. Recycle any and all items listed on the poster!

Let’s earn money for Heartland! Please turn in non-expired box tops to the designated bin located in the lobby of school. Please remember to put your child’s name (as well as the teacher’s name) on the bag or envelope. The classroom with the most box tops will win an extra recess. New this year: Students have a chance to win one of several small prizes for turning in box tops! Deadline is Friday, October 11th.

We are looking for volunteers to help sort and trim box tops. If you are interested in helping out, please email Jenny Manchik at jmanchik24@gmail.com. Thank you.

Join us at Heartland on October 18th from 5:30 - 7:30pm for Math Night, held by Mathnasium.  You and your child will explore, inspire, empower, and educate yourselves about how much fun math can be. You will also learn simple things you can do at home to foster your student’s interest in math. Most importantly, you will get the chance to connect with other families while you and your children learn and play together. Did we mention that dinner will be provided free by Chick-fil-A?

If you know of any high schoolers looking to earn some volunteer hours who would be interested in helping out during this event, please direct them to our website here
